Microsoft's Bing a Google-Killer? Not Likely.

"Bing" is a sound. It makes me think of submarines or BB guns. But Microsoft wants you to revise your thinking: Bing is now a verb and the name of their new search engine. In an interview with AllThingsDigital, Steve Ballmer confirmed the rumors of the new search engine and gave us dates on its release.
Using a system similar to the new Wolfram Alpha, it looks like Bing will provide direct answers to questions, but they'll focus on everyday things like weather, local interests and health. Bing will be available to the public on June 3, but right now you can access an info page with a welcome letter introducing you to the site and the reasoning behind it.
We love how the introduction letter slams on Google and all but calls it archaic. However, despite the blatant marketing tactics, they threw in the word "evolve" and it got me thinking ... it is time to evolve. But I still think I would rather evolve with Google over something that makes me think of a pinball machine. Plus, if it's anything like Wolfram Alpha ... I think I'll keep using Cha-Cha for those all-important questions that cannot be solved by Google.
*Side note: we thought it was really tacky that on the welcome page the second sentence said "But - Bing! - here it is." Everyone knows when a great idea hits us or a revolutionary moment occurs the sound is clearly more of a "ding".
So check it out on June 3. Then, to keep up with the latest in tech news, check out these other blog posts:
